For Brooklynites Bridget and Hans, picking a location for their new Portland home was critical. In order for them to make the move, it had have all the things that make our city great – close-in, walkable, metropolitan, a neighborhood feel, safety, privacy, mature vegetation, and above all else – COFFEE.
After exploring Alberta Arts, Mississippi, Rose City Park, and Hollywood, I came across a little cottage near Belmont and 42nd that hadn’t been snapped up yet. The minimal living space and lack of off-street parking may have turned off Portland families, but 912 square feet seemed downright luxurious to Bridget and Hans!
Since the house had been sitting for weeks and they had already reduced the price once, we decided to do something that is becoming almost unheard of in our redhot market: we submitted an offer below asking price! After a bit of negotiation with the listing agent (a fellow Keller Williams broker!), we reached an agreement significantly less than the asking price, with seller repairs AND a closing cost credit!
Bridget and Hans couldn’t be happier to start work on their Belmont bargain home. For the other buyers out there who are losing faith in a seller’s market – don’t give up hope! Good deals still exist, you just have to be willing to compromise a bit, and always trust your Realtor.
