Happy Valley is one of Oregon’s fastest growing communities and offers a distinct feeling of community. North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) offers about 50 parks and green spaces to about 100,000 residents in the north portion of the county. Stretching from the Clackamas River on the south to the Multnomah County border on the north, the Willamette River on the west and reaching to the urban growth boundary on the east, NCPRD includes the City of Milwaukie, the City of Happy Valley and unincorporated areas. Along with natural beauties like the 45-acre North Clackamas Park in Milwaukie and the 190-acre Mt. Talbert Nature Park just off Interstate 205, the District also offers North Clackamas Aquatic Park with water slides, a lap pool, a kiddie pool and 400,000 gallons of fun; the Milwaukie Center serving all of North Clackamas County; recreation, special events and classes; a growing list of playing fields and walking paths, the coming six-mile Trolley Trail biking and pedestrian path and more.
There are over 7 parks within the actual City of Happy Valley, including the largest and most popular, Happy Valley Park. Happy Valley Park features 24 acres of wetlands. A boardwalk wanders through the wetlands allowing access to natures wonders. A paved pathway around the park offers a three quarter of a mile jog or walk to enjoy the surrounding sites. Happy Valley Park offers an abundance of activities for children: A toddler park, jungle gym, swings, tire tree, teeter totters, sand box, modular play system, and water splash pad. Coupled with the picnic areas and horseshoe pits, this makes an excellent combination for a family outing. An off-leash dog area is located in the back southerly end of the park. A fully fenced area has been setup to allow your dog to run free.
Happy Valley offers an abundance of shopping options such as Clackamas Town Center which boasts over 180 stores, a 20 screen movie theater, children’s play area, and several restaurants, including: Claim Jumper, Sinju Sushi Restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen, and the RAM Restaurant. Clackamas Town Center has a TriMet station located next to the theater and numerous buses drop and pick-up at this TriMet station often throughout each day. On TriMet’s new MAX Green Line, you can go from downtown Portland to Clackamas Town Center in 39 minutes. It’s a convenient and affordable way to connect to work, shopping, school and recreation in the Portland metro area.
The public schools in Happy Valley and Clackamas are part of the North Clackamas School District, which ranks fifth in Oregon in terms of student enrollment. North Clackamas boasts outstanding students, schools with 7 National Merit honorees and 12 schools ranked ‘outstanding’, North Clackamas Schools has seen clear results from efforts to meet the learning needs of each student. Clackamas is also home to Clackamas Community College and the Oregon Institute of Technology.
