Hillsboro is the fifth largest city in Oregon. Best described as an uptown hometown, Hillsboro is a well-planned growing community with a strong, diverse economic base. Hillsboro is considered the high tech corridor for the state, home to companies such as Intel, while, at the same time, is also fueled economically by the farming and timber industries.
Downtown Hillsboro is a unique blend of old and new with places to shop, dine and play. The Main Street still has that old-fashioned feel. It is perfect for a leisurely stroll. The Civic Center, in the heart of downtown Hillsboro, houses city government. The north plaza with its welcoming fountain was designed to be a gathering place for the community. The Hillsboro Farmers Market is a seasonal open-air market featuring fresh local produce, specialty foods, garden products, arts & crafts, live music and educational information.
Hillsboro’s Parks & Recreation Department provides the community with more than 1500 acres of park land, an array of recreational facilities (including the Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center, Jackson Bottom Wetlands and the Walters Cultural Arts Center), and a multitude of recreational, educational and cultural programs. Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a 725-acre wildlife preserve located within the city limits of Hillsboro, Oregon. The Preserve is a tranquil sanctuary for both people and animals.

The district also operates the Miller Education Center, an alternative school, the Hare Field athletic complex, and City View Charter School.
