Downtown Portland lies in the Southwest section between the I-405 freeway loop and the Willamette River, centered around Pioneer Courthouse Square (“Portland’s living room”). Portland’s downtown core is located in the city’s SW quadrant. Easy parking, free public transportation, and tree-lined, pedestrian-friendly streets make downtown Portland an enjoyable place to work, shop, eat or just people watch.
With luxurious apartments, condominiums and lofts, downtown Portland is a great place to live as well. Many downtown residences feature spectacular views, off street parking, and other amenities.
Just west of downtown, the West Hills neighborhood is home to some of Portland’s grandest mansions. Known as Portland Heights, this neighborhood offers panoramic views of the city, stately homes and beautiful gardens. The Corbett neighborhood, just south of downtown, features turn-of-the-century Victorian homes. The Johns Landing area that runs along the waterfront of the Willamette River is known for its unique shops, office complexes and condominiums. The Terwilliger neighborhood, located above John’s Landing, is home to Lewis & Clark College and OHSU.

Hatfield United States Courthouse, PGE Park (home of the Portland Timbers soccer team and the Portland Beavers minor league baseball team), and downtown’s premier shopping destination — Pioneer Place Mall.
Beyond downtown, the SW section also includes neighborhoods like South Portland, South Burlingame, Hillsdale, and Multnomah, with unique residential houses and well defined commercial and retail districts. Attractions include: Washington Park, site of North America’s deepest transit station, the Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, the International Rose Test Garden, the Portland Japanese Garden, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and many hiking trails.
